Turkmen carpets and rugs, which have long been known for their durability and unique designs, are exported to more than fifty countries.
Design of the original Turkmen carpet is repetitive, which means it is formed by repeating one or more designs.
Turkmen carpets are woven in geometric patterns using dark red, navy blue, dark green, white and beige, and they usually have woven wrap margin at the end.
Caucasian carpets have embossed geometric designs also bright and strongly contrasting colors are used in Turkish carpet designs, which often include red, yellow and blue. Many Afghan carpets with traditional Turkmen designs are made by Turks living in this country.
Afghanistan produces many carpets, mainly for export, and the design of many of them is’ Bukhara’. However, there are also Afghan rugs with Turkmen designs available.
History of Turkmen carpet:
The people of Turkmenistan were generally inspired by the design and pattern of their flag, and the vertical strip of the flag of Turkmenistan shows the five main designs of the Turkmen carpet.
These patterns are represented by secondary shapes distributed along the edges. These patterns show the national unity of Turkmenistan.
The five patterns of the traditional carpet on the red plate of Turkmenistan’s coat of arms represent the five main tribes and represent the traditional and religious values of this country. These tribes include Teke, Yomut, Arsari, Chodor and Sarik.
The city of Barkat has a Turkmen carpet weaving factory that has been producing since 1923.
